Major Disaster Averted

«They almost burned down the apartment» — a member of the SimSum Community prevented a major mishap on July 10.

Leo, 9 years old, and Mary, 6 years old (names changed), often stay home alone during the summer holidays because their parents are at work.

The children were frying sausages. The oil caught fire, and a kitchen curtain flared up. Attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful. The flames spread to the second curtain, and the kitchen filled with acrid smoke. In tears, Leo pressed the emergency button in the SimSum app.

Within a few minutes, the disaster was prevented, although the curtains were burned, the ceilings were blackened with soot, and the handles of the plastic windows melted. A next-door neighbor, a fourth-year student and a children’s father friend, was part of the family's Circle of Trust. He arrived with his friend in just a minute, and they quickly dealt with the fire.

After the incident, Leo and Mary’s parents called our operators several times, asking not to report the incident to the school or the police. In response, our operators demanded that they promise to teach the children about fire safety.

On July 10, 2024 alone, the SimSum situation center received 71 emergency signals. All the children are safe! Help is always nearby.
